Been so busy with the renovations. Kitchen is finally done! I love this before and after shot. I can’t believe this is our kitchen 🙂 good bye old 80s kitchen!
When my girl moved out to Arizona with her fiance we decided to go visit them plus I always wanted to go. They ended up moving back to NY and breaking up but that was a year later. I wanted to stay at a Kimpton but when I saw a cute house for rent just a few miles from Scottsdale I decided on this house instead. Then my mom decided to come and meet us out there. I loved scottsdale so much, it’s one of the places we are strongly considering moving to when we’re older and retired (like 30 years from now lol) I loved the area, the food, everything. When my mom met up with us we made dinner in the house and I’m blaming that for the horrible food poisoning I got. Seriously I felt like death for 2 whole days. I couldn’t eat, all I did was sleep, drink ginger ale, and it was just the worst. It cut our trip in half and I barely saw my mom. I was definitely happy we had rented a house instead of a hotel room since I slept most of the time and it would have been worse just being in a small room, screaming at my hubs to shut up at 1 in the afternoon lol. Luckily the last day I started feeling better and since we had a red eye flight we hopped in the car and took the drive to go see the grand canyon. I just wish I hadn’t gotten sick and was able to enjoy it more, and show my mom around. I loved the house we rented and it really inspired me to do grey in our own home. I also was introduced to an omelette with goat cheese which is now one of my favorite things 🙂 It’s the little things. It was at this place called the breakfast club which I still remember till this day because of the movie with the same name. Also omg the truffle fries at Zinc Bistro, I loved them so much we went back a 2nd time (very rare). We almost have those same curtains in our bedroom now. This house just proves how much rental houses, hotels, have inspired me for our own home. The grand canyon is something I will never forget and I’m so happy I was able to go see it. This was the first time we used Airbnb too. Usually we use Homeaway or VRBO.
After our wedding since my parents paid for it, we thought we’d take them on a trip to Los Angeles as a thank you. We rented a cute cottage in West Hollywood. My mom ended up not coming because we wouldn’t allow her husband at the time to come (long story). I’m sure she regrets her decision now! Anyway my dad still came and it was a great time. We ate all over LA which though I even lived there years ago for a summer I never really did. Also finally went to Santa Monica! Which again had never done. I’m only sad we never made it over to Malibu even though I’ve been there as a kid I barely remember it. My hubs also didn’t get to see Venice Beach. I loved sitting outside Urth Cafe having hot chocolate being a huge Entourage fan that I am (they were always there on the show). I made sure to look all celeb like putting my sunglasses on and my hair looked amazing lol. I also took a random selfie before heading to Santa Monica, and another picture my hubs took of me in Beverly hills at Villa Blanca which are still two of my favorite pics. The cottage we rented was a huge inspiration for our renovated home, seriously our kitchen will look very similar! Also the best part of our trip was going on the Dearly Departed tour! I love horror and am obsessed with all things like serial killers, murders, deaths, etc so obviously I loved it. Anyway Los Angeles is great if not superficial as hell. I’m happy I got to share one of my favorite places with my hubs.
A few years ago we had this weird pinkish/maroonish color I hated and thought to cover up with yellow. Not realizing I basically hate the color yellow lol. For the longest time I wanted to do gray but it’s such a pain to paint. Taking everything down, moving everything, etc, blah blah blah. Finally over the summer we went for it and I couldn’t be happier. I love the grey so much I basically want it in every room of the house now. It opened up the space and just looks so much nicer/modern. I also painted our stairs white when they used to be fully brown. My dad had to argue for days why would you paint white just leave it alone? Yeah they look so much better now! We also used to have dark blue on the stairs and the grey really opened that space up compared to that dark blue. ICK. Also updated all the lighting 🙂 our wedding canvas art was done by our photographer since I didn’t want just the regular photos on the wall. I’m going to say where we got everything so read on if you want to know! Our curtains and pillows are West Elm. The couch is Macys. All the paint now (not the yellow or blue) are Sherwin Williams Repose gray (best color ever) the lights are from Pottery Barn. The Mirror is from pottery barn, the bar Crate & barrel. The tray is from West elm, both of them. Mercury bottles West elm along with the mercury candle, the other candle is Pier 1 imports. Front door is from home depot. Prada canvas is Oliver Gal art and I got that from Zgallerie. The big Paris book is from Z gallerie also which hides all our remotes, etc. Our sphere is from there too I joke it’s like a weapon that thing 🙂 books amazon. In front of the window is a skull, candles, and globe on a console table from Pottery Barn. Skull & globe z gallerie. Candles & holders Pier 1 imports. Not sure how big this photo is but the 2nd shelf if you can see is customized dog art done of our dogs from etsy (yes I’m that person) next to it is candle holders/vase from west elm. Bottom shelf are the ming boxes from Z gallerie, then our wedding album done by our photographer. If you can see the other table that has a lamp on it, it has a cool retro phone from pottery barn 🙂 Inside our wall unit is a purple teapot from CB2 that I had to get (love purple), next to heirloom bottles from z gallerie. The bottom is basically things from all our vacations along with an hour glass from pier 1 imports (how little time oh how clever) I think that’s it. I really need to check out homegoods but I love looking at things in stores and ordering online! It helps so I don’t overdo it all the time lol. To see what I spend etc instead of sitting at a counter oh put this back, etc. Which I’d never do and I’d honestly just spend to much lol. Can’t see it but we have a huge wall unit from Bob’s furniture with a 65″ tv perfect for walking dead on Sundays or super bowl. My hubs loves technology so we also have surround sound and a great HDMI cable. When we put a fireplace on our tv from netflix everyone who saw the photo thought it was a real fireplace lol. I think from cool vacation rentals, to Kimpton hotels, it helped me or inspired me to do our home very similarly. I also don’t like to be to matchy (made up word)
We redid our bedroom soon after we got married and I’m just so in love with it everyday. We got amazing Pergo floors from Home Depot that my hubs put in himself. The rest is almost all West elm, with some PBteen lamps thrown in since I love purple and they have a cute purple. Lots of girls are always like your husband doesn’t care the room is purple or furniture white? NO lol. I don’t understand why guys would care about that. Why would any guy be so against white furniture? Or the color of the walls lol.
We’re about to redo our kitchen (well a month or 2) it’s a long process. We have the design plans and we’re just waiting for dates. First they demo the kitchen, then they have to rip out the floor, put the floor, let it set, get it ready for cabinets, then those come, then the counter people come to measure and order the counters. Basically it’ll be like goodbye kitchen for a month in March or April lol. Anyway I picked Cambria since it’s known as the best and it just looks amazing. When looking me and the hubs both at the same time picked summerhill. I basically figure we’re soulmates because we both picked the same countertop and love it. Most guys would probably be like glitter? (not sure you can see it in the photo but there is some) and want a more manly design lol. I love this so much. We got estimates today and I love how one guy was like “you know there’s a wave?” uh duh. Me and my hubs are the best customers we figure stuff out on our own and basically just need help buying things lol. I knew long ago it had like a wave in it. 🙂 I just love it. It’s so different.
After we got married since we had already been living together, I thought it’d be fun to go stay in the city the next day. If I could go back I’d say no Crystal just chill out and do it like for Valentines or something. My grandma who I now barely talk to, kept hounding us for money. After a wedding you get lots of money in cards. Yes I’m one of those who has a grandma that just assumes our wedding money should be giving to her because she needs/wants it. We were exhausted from the wedding, barely slept the night after our wedding, and had to wake up early to see everyone for breakfast, then pack up all our stuff to head home. Since I was no longer speaking to my mom’s husband at this point (or ever again lol) we had no real help except my wonderful father. (he’s the best seriously) all of this we honestly just wanted a nap but we had to go into the city to check in (was to late to cancel!) at checkin we were both so tired we didn’t even mention how we had just gotten married, etc so we got no special treatment. Something that would have been super nice/appreciated. It felt really weird to go from everyone kissing up to us to being treated like some tourists. I still sort of blame the hotel because no one even asked us why we were there for one night. It just made me not sure if I’d ever stay here again even though I love the lobby here lol.
Anyway we went out for lunch at Cafeteria (best mac & cheese ever btw) then went for hot chocolate at city bakery (it’s like a melted candy bar) after that we finally had our nap. We finally got up at 9 pm for a fast short dinner in the restaurant downstairs. The Kardashians lived here/stayed here so when I see them eating in the hotel I at least can say hey I’ve been there! lol. Then early the next morning we headed back to home, my hubs back to work and it was like bam welcome to married life lol. It was supposed to be a yay we’re married moment instead it was just stressful as my hubs kept worrying my grandma might just take the money I had hidden (yes she’s that kind of grandma) to being exhausted, to not being upgraded, and basically just $300 spent on nothing except a bed. If I could go back I’d just make us go home it would have been better and maybe go out to dinner around here to say omg we’re married! I still love the hotel lobby. I barely remember the room except it was tiny and I think we faced a wall lol. All they had to do was ask why we were there and I would have even shown my just married top and I bet we could have had a nice suite and some kind of special treatment but nooooo lol. I blame my exhausted self too but I blame them more… Hotels always ask why you are there to fish for reasons to make your stay special, at least every other hotel except this one.
