For my mother in law’s birthday last year we went out for breakfast early one Sunday to Jam in Massapequa. This place usually has a wait but early on a Sunday we got right in. By the time we left there was a wait. I can understand why because this was one of the best breakfasts ever. I still dream about my omelet I had here. It was beyond delicious. I need to go back here one day.
Few summers ago we finally hit up Toku and it was delicious. I love rock shrimp. I also loved my blue martini. My good friend who is like family he had gotten a good job and was moving so he joined us and we also got a bottle of Sake. Funniest thing was after lunch we all walked around which is like the Rodeo Drive of Long island (apart from the hamptons) and it was summer so I was in some skirt, tank top. I was much skinnier back then, so yeah I was dressed to the 9s lol. I remember the 3 of us walking past a construction crew and every single head turned. My friend was like wow man does that bother you? My hubs was like “No I’m happy to have a head turning wife” something to that effect lol. I’m pretty sure that’ll not happen again in this lifetime plus now I’m older and usually in sweats these days lol. This same friend I remember was telling me I want what you guys have, he thought he’d never find the one. I told him be patient! Shortly after he moved, he went on Tinder and found his now fiance, mother of his child 🙂 I couldn’t be happier. I’ll never understand those who get practically mad if someone finally gets what they’ve been searching for. Anyway I’ll never forget Toku, around the block/shopping center stores is Cipollini which is where you go when you want to see the plastic surgery of long island. 🙂
I know Houstons is a chain but it never came off that way, it was a super delicious burger. I mean seriously this thing was amazing. I loved that we had one right by us at the mall and we went there a ton of times. I was sad to hear they were closing and we went for a final meal. When I wrote my review on yelp how sad I was and why were they closing someone was nice enough to explain why. Their lease had ended and they wanted to renew it but the rent was like $20,000 a month? I know it’s a popular mall and things go up but a lot of restaurants are ending up closing because of sky rocketing rent. Da Silvano a very insanely popular NYC restaurant I sadly was never able to eat at, I will definitely never now because he closed it. He complained he opened it and started with $500 rent and all these years later it was like $41,000 (41 years later). It just wasn’t worth it anymore. It was a celeb favorite too with tons of scandals I’ll just post the link. http://nypost.com/2016/12/21/legendary-eatery-da-silvano-closed-forever/ but yeah Houstons wasn’t legendary or anything close to Da Silvano but both have closed for the same reasons. I will miss my burger and if ever in Chicago (I think there is one there) I will have to go eat it. My hubs was nice enough to cut my burger in half for me since it was huge 🙂 The spot is now empty and has been since last year when they closed. The bad thing about NY is as rent and things go higher and higher, most incomes have not gone up. That’s why we, along with many friends, end up living at home with family! We’re lucky my dad is letting us have this house and we’ve basically taken it over as our own. He’s more like a roommate we have now, it’d be different if my parents were actually together too. Besides my bff and a few others, no one I know can afford a home around here.
My dad had a gift card for Ruth Chris and there is one in Garden city right by our house so around the holidays we went for a nice lunch here. It was one delicious burger. The bun was a bit big for me so I just hate the bottom bun with lettuce on top which was perfect for me plus hey less fattening! They also were giving cute Christmas bells we took home and hung on our door. I always love a good burger and can’t believe all this time, this place was only 5 minutes away and we had never gone. Pricey but well worth it.
The great thing when my hubs started training in his new job, he’s had weekends off! Which finally meant BRUNCH! Almost a year later yeah we’ve barely gone to Brunch lol but still I will never forget our first with my mom in law, sister in law, and of course the hubs. We went to Parlay in Rockville Centre which is like 20 minutes away from us. My sister in law luckily made reservations because this place gets packed. I don’t even know how to describe the food besides to say this should not be an everyday place to eat lol, fattening but good for a once in awhile meal. I had to get their infamous eggs benedict except it’s on tator totts! It came out in a skillet and just omg amazing. I remember when I posted it everyone assumed it was all this cheese and had to make obnoxious comments. Like people can’t just appreciate the delicious meal I had once and instead tell me how I’m gonna get fat, blah blah so rude .No idea what anyone else ate but I remember the person behind us had pancakes with ice cream, sprinkles, etc it looked like a dessert meal but wasn’t. I joked that meal was way worse then mine to the fb dietary mob. Here’s my food and since it was eggs benedict that is not cheese all over! Hollandaise sauce!
We went to a haunted house awhile back and I saw this cute restaurant called Blackstone right next door, I made a note to check it out one day. When my hubs got his new job I decided we had to celebrate and we came here. It’s an adorable place and definitely not cheap but so worth it. The risotto I had with squash sauce on the side was just omg amazing. It’s a steak house so my hubs got a steak which he loved. I also loved you can order steak and cook it on these rock kind of things right at your table, so cool. We watched people next to us doing that.
When my mom was here in December I took her out for lunch to Swallow in Huntington. She got half her stomach cut out so she only eats small meals, tapas style food seemed perfect. Plus Risotto mac & cheese? YES! Anyway just as delicious as it sounds, is exactly how it tasted. It was a perfect day for lunch. She’s coming back in 2 weeks to help get our house ready for renovations and I think we’ll go to Prime in the same town (it’s on the water though) Huntington on Long island is where I consider the best food to be out here. Mariah Carey is from there btw. My parents in the 80s-90s ran into her at a bar, we still have her autograph she wrote out to me and my brother after my mom asked her bodyguard if she could get an autograph for her kids. If Huntington wasn’t super expensive it’d be the place I’d most want to live around here.Anyway look at this delicious dish!
