For my 30th birthday, the actual day of September 18th years ago. I wanted to do something so I thought let’s finally go to Atlantic city. As I looked at hotels I was pretty disappointed. I mean I know it’s not Vegas but it was just not nice lol. Revel had been opened I think a few months at the time and once I saw it, I knew that was the place. I remember the biggest suite was maybe $300? Really cheap considering it was the biggest suite they had. It made me really like AC at the time. We stayed one last time a year later before they closed for good. We also stayed at the Borgata a week before we got married, which was super nice, the Tropicana too (before they redid it of course, so ghetto it was lol) My hubs old job it was easy to just go to AC for a night for like $50-$100 so we’d go a lot even though we both don’t gamble. If they ever open Revel again as any other hotel I suggest anyone go! It was definitely a nice place while it lasted. We don’t take over night trips anymore that much because his new job, and when we do it has to be when my dad is home so he can watch our diabetic dog.
For our anniversary I wanted to stay at the Soho grand but by the time I went to book, it went up considerably in price so I said forget it and we stayed at the Waldorf Astoria before it closed. They had a flash sale and I couldn’t resist so we finally stayed at the Soho grand which is something I’ve wanted to do forever. I love Soho and I’d say it’s my favorite part of the city, most of my favorite restaurants are there or at least by there. I just love it and it’s not touristy like midtown can be. We had a suite and had a great night of hot cocoa, netflix, and hanging in the living room of our suite before bed 🙂 I’d say it was 1000x better than our trip to the city in January. I also loved our room. Seriously we had a bar in our hotel room, an actual bar! I’m hoping to one day stay at the sister hotel the Roxy. We’re also about to reno our kitchen, bathroom, etc so I was happy to go to CB2 for some bathroom things 🙂
So instead of Boston since I was worried about snow we ended up on a small overnight trip to Brooklyn which is like 40 minutes from us. The new William Vale is even better because they have 50% off if you are from the tri state area! So awesome. Anyway we quickly checked in and got a room on the 20th floor. I loved the hotel and am seriously going back next month. We wanted to eat at this popular place Lilia but they said 2 1/2 hour wait but of course 40 minutes later after we went somewhere else they texted me…. Oh well. Even more reason to back eventually 🙂 I loved walking around Williamsburg which is the part of Brooklyn we were in. All rooms have balconies! Loved our view.
After we got married since we had already been living together, I thought it’d be fun to go stay in the city the next day. If I could go back I’d say no Crystal just chill out and do it like for Valentines or something. My grandma who I now barely talk to, kept hounding us for money. After a wedding you get lots of money in cards. Yes I’m one of those who has a grandma that just assumes our wedding money should be giving to her because she needs/wants it. We were exhausted from the wedding, barely slept the night after our wedding, and had to wake up early to see everyone for breakfast, then pack up all our stuff to head home. Since I was no longer speaking to my mom’s husband at this point (or ever again lol) we had no real help except my wonderful father. (he’s the best seriously) all of this we honestly just wanted a nap but we had to go into the city to check in (was to late to cancel!) at checkin we were both so tired we didn’t even mention how we had just gotten married, etc so we got no special treatment. Something that would have been super nice/appreciated. It felt really weird to go from everyone kissing up to us to being treated like some tourists. I still sort of blame the hotel because no one even asked us why we were there for one night. It just made me not sure if I’d ever stay here again even though I love the lobby here lol.
Anyway we went out for lunch at Cafeteria (best mac & cheese ever btw) then went for hot chocolate at city bakery (it’s like a melted candy bar) after that we finally had our nap. We finally got up at 9 pm for a fast short dinner in the restaurant downstairs. The Kardashians lived here/stayed here so when I see them eating in the hotel I at least can say hey I’ve been there! lol. Then early the next morning we headed back to home, my hubs back to work and it was like bam welcome to married life lol. It was supposed to be a yay we’re married moment instead it was just stressful as my hubs kept worrying my grandma might just take the money I had hidden (yes she’s that kind of grandma) to being exhausted, to not being upgraded, and basically just $300 spent on nothing except a bed. If I could go back I’d just make us go home it would have been better and maybe go out to dinner around here to say omg we’re married! I still love the hotel lobby. I barely remember the room except it was tiny and I think we faced a wall lol. All they had to do was ask why we were there and I would have even shown my just married top and I bet we could have had a nice suite and some kind of special treatment but nooooo lol. I blame my exhausted self too but I blame them more… Hotels always ask why you are there to fish for reasons to make your stay special, at least every other hotel except this one.
In 2014 I decided to visit my mom one last time down there. I get along fine with my mom. It’s my grandma I’m estranged from. I figured if we stayed in New Orleans I’d have fun and of course she’d have fun (she lives out in Picayune MS) Just when I thought of that this hotel popped up on groupon. Talk about a sign! I got an awesome deal and 3 nights in New Orleans. The hotel is historic (not usually my type but I loved it) It had this gorgeous pool on the rooftop. The coolest thing was the late night peanut butter & Jelly sandwiches, plus hot chocolate. Every night we’d get at least the hot chocolate. I mean really I think that’s my dream at most hotels good cocoa. I’m not a coffee drinker since I’d never sleep if I drank it lol. Seriously I had coffee once at noon and couldn’t go to bed until 5 and only slept 3 hours! Anyway this hotel was perfect and I recommend it to anyone staying in New Orleans. It’s supposedly haunted but I guess ghosts have no interest in bothering me. P.s. they are on groupon at least once a year till this day 🙂 probably more often I just don’t constantly check.
Our 3rd anniversary we decided to stay at the Waldorf since they are going to close for 3 years to renovate. Who knows where we’ll be in 3 years! I know we’ll be in NY but if we have a baby nights out in the city might be hard 🙂 Anyway I knew it would be outdated but it wasn’t that bad. Service wasn’t as great as it probably should be but they are closing soon so it made sense. I can’t wait to see it when it’s all done! We also had room service for breakfast and it was delicious 🙂 they gave a little tray of hot chocolate toppings so cute!
My love of Kimpton started with a hotel in Philly. Kimpton Monaco in Philly I saw years ago and always wanted to stay. For my 31st birthday I figured it was time to finally check it out. That started my great love affair with the brand. Seriously they treat us so well I practically plan vacations around Kimptons. We are usually upgraded, if not we get amazing service like cupcakes for my birthday, champagne for anniversaries, or chocolate kisses, just seriously there is no brand like Kimpton. I hound people to stay at Kimptons when they go someplace and there is one. “How can you not stay at one?” and the best thing of all they love pets! no pet fees! I have to rant for a second how do hotels get off charging pet fees? Seriously the Trump Soho wants $250 NONrefundable for a dog. Nonsense. I could see holding a fee and if room is fine returning it, but nonrefundable for a tiny Chihuahua is ridiculous to me. What are my dogs gonna do? Kimpton doesn’t charge a fee and they love dogs. This hotel in Philly is just gorgeous. I’d call it my favorite hotel in the world. I even got a couch in our living room that looks very similar to this one! I’d say they inspired me.
